On day 11 or 12, not sure which, I was given a spell quest. Go you Unicorn Park, throw some things in the cauldron, nothing happens, go back to Ravenwood. Nothing happens there either. So no spell. No idea what I was supposed to accomplish. Just a dead end quest

So what is it supposed to be, other than a wild goose chase called a spell quest?
I completed the Day 12 quest. It's not a spell quest, the notice said the quest is in your spell book, the purpose is to further the story of the "Pekrons" and their danger to the Spiral. I noticed that I received 300 XP and a 100 gold for completing the assignment - perhaps you didn't notice it.
