Question about gear stats

So I've noticed that with some gear, it could say something like:

+5% defense
or something like:
+5 defense (with no percent).

So my question is: what's the difference between the +5 and the +5%?

Hello,

An item (such as a jewel) with +5 resistance will give you resistance against 5 points of damage. An item with +5% resistance will give you resistance against 5% of the total incoming damage.

So if the damage were to normally be 750, then, with a +5, it would be 745 and with a +5% it would be about 713?

Barring other factors such as resistance, blade, (etc) yes, that is correct.
