School Specialization

First of all thanks for an awesome game that is fun, exciting and challenging!! Kudos to KI!

I have noticed most players like to "Dual Class" IE: Balance and Myth, Life and Death, Ice and Storm, etc etc.
I am a storm wizard and I prefer not to use any other schools; when people ask me what 2 Classes I use, my response is "Thunder and Lightning"
The way I have developed and play my character, It is just not practical for me to use multiple schools. Based on this I wanted to pose 'Specialization' as an option for players.

A wizard who is interested in specializing could do a long and tedious quest for his/her trainer and after having completed it would be able to use Training Points to gain some of the following suggested benefits:

1 Point: +1 defense in class spells (innate)
2 Points: +1 offense in class spells (innate)
3 points: +1 Accuracy in class spells (innate)
4 points: Hidden spell(s) only available to specialists
5 Points +1 Hand size

Specialist could also be a title IE: "Specialist Diviner"

If this seems too powerful, the Training Point costs could be adjusted

Hmmm ... it's an interesting suggestion, to be sure, but it may be a tad overpowered. Getting eight cards in one turn? Nobody would choose the old way anymore. ;)

Really, though, I don't think you've given some of the other schools a chance. You honestly can't find a use for Feint (Death School)? Or the balance blades?

Nor life's healing spells? I know it's 4-pip, but as a Necromancer with a sub-class of Life Magic, I use satyr all the time.

I DO own and use a few of the cards from other schools.
I use Elemental Blade and Elemental Trap (Balance)
Occasionally Ghouls and Vampires find their way into my deck.
I would use Hex and Balance Blade if I could get them.
As a Storm Wizard (High Damage output, Low HP) Feint scares me.

It was a suggestion that I thought might add flavor to the game. Bear in mind, Specialists (once chosen) would only be able to use spells from their native school.

I am certainly not trying suggest something that would help ME (I see a lot of that in here) specifically, just a thought that may add some choices for players and add even more diversity to the playstyles.

This is a good idea and has been discussed a few times before. Personally, I kinda like the idea of specializing. Why not go further and if you put say 10 points into your school, you make power pips act like 3 pips. Also, if you devote all of your pips you recieve a natural attack spell that does x damage and maybe more. The possibilities are endless.

But what does that do to you in PVP. You are a storm wizard. I know it. I put up the storm shield. What do you do? You could never kill me before I killed you. If I cast my minion, forget it. Being able to vary my attack has been key for me. I have surprised more than one wizard in PVP and it made soloing endless levels in tombs and towers much easier.

I think this a great idea especially for storm wizards where accuaracy is sorely needed.

Learning two or more schools are equally good but the option of specializing is nice too. I am not sure why you cant add it and have both.

Well, Nosleep.
I never said it was mandatory. A person would chose to specialize or not; you take the good with the bad. Everyone would have the opportunity to make their own decision.
Additionally, I have more damage spells than you have Storm Shields ;-)
Bats and Sharks are very handy for dispelling Storm Shields.

I understood that you meant this as an option. I guess, I don't see a path to success in the arena with only one school of magic. Like I said having two schools has been a big help to me. I have developed my style of play around that.

i dont think that is the best idea, but it is a very good one, i am an ice wizard with life as a second school, i also learn fire attacks, i have beat many grandmasters in ranked matches this way.

i like the idea and if it was an option who cares if you cant do pvp as well not every one does pvp i personally think alot off the people in the arena are snobby and whine about everything btw i am in balance school and every other post about pvp is complaining we are to powerful i disagree i get beat all the time by fire and life mages, but back on subject i love the idea of specializing in one school only and getting to use your training points for for your own school, for some schools there is already something like that death and myth both have secondary shops where you can upgrade minions from shop in krocotopia and death has a shop in the sunken school, but i think it would be awesome to have this as an option for all schools to have

I think this idea has merit but I don't think it should be so restrictive. Remember that quest in Unicorn Way, way back when you ~lvl 5 and you got a Fairy for helping Old McDonalds Wife? How would you cast it if you specialized? As a matter of fact how would anyone be able to get more health other than Life and Death? And please do not bring up that tiny little fire spell that gives you 40 health for 3 rounds. You said:

But I think that your idea does not need that restriction. Let people get spells in other schools AND let them spend training points at their primary school to get extra bonuses. My whole family is relatively new to the game and everyone has asked me / talked about how the monsters get resist naturally and we don't. I try to explain that we can make those choices by what we wear but that isn't always a good enough explanation when some of the bosses can have a 60%+ resistance. This idea would allow players to decide if they want to have "Rank 4 Elite" type resistance to THEIR school of magic, or a boost in damage, accuracy, etc. but ONLY in their primary school. So, yes I like this idea quite a lot. Sorry I had to chop it up a little.

I like the options laid out but I think that you should be given options for how to spend any given point:

1 point for: +1 defense against school spells (innate), and -1 defense against school's opposite(s) PER TEN LEVELS, will change as you go up (ie, grandmasters end up with +5 per point used, but also -5 boost on opposite school)
1 point for: +1 offense in school (innate) per ten levels
1 point for: +1 accuracy in school (innate) per ten levels
2 points for: 8 pip spell (for grandmaster or higher only)
2 points: Enhanced (double-strength) school blade (innate, shows on sidebar like wand or item spells), costs one pip, three cards total
1 point: +1% power pip chance per ten levels

There are all kinds of ways this could work, though I think the initial +1 offense or +1 accuracy should get kicked up after level 10 (retroactive, so if you level up to 11, you will now get the higher value per point you spent)

The way the current system is, I am using a whole lot of training points to get at one spell I really want (such as feint). Specializing should be a sacrifice BUT one you should not regret. Make it worthwhile!
