I was going into Grizzleheim for some quick XP since I was so close to level 40, but the rainbow wasn't making any noise. I was riding a Horned Sweeper mount.
Is it my mount riding that affects this, or is the rainbow bugged?

When you go over the rainbow, you're technically floating over it. The rainbow is activated by pressure-your character walking over it. There is no pressure with a flying broomstick, so it doesn't activate the wonderful little dings of the rainbow. When you switch to feet, it works.
