Cheating Bosses

In a certain quest, my friend had to defeat a boss. I didn't know it was a cheating boss until I started the battle. The bosse's name was Matkis Axethief. His school was fire. Of course, I myself am a fire wizard and my first reaction was to put converts into my deck. Well, when I put a convert on him, he cheats and removes it. Now to my knowledge I thought traps were supposed to be the ones that were removed not converts. As a result I was unable to put any converts on him so I just attacked him, and guess what? He had extremely high resist to my attacks. When I used efreet with a blade on it, it did about 400 damage. There's nothing wrong with cheating bosses, and I know Kingsisle wants to make the game more challenging, but is this really nessacary?
