Pierced! Or is it? Does not work?

I have observed in Mirror Lake that pierced attacks still only inflict damage that it would have normally done without pierce.

Allow me to explain.

I was in Mirror Lake, and we were fighting the monsters. One of my team mates cast a spell, and it managed to pierce a tower shield. Before the attack hit, it said "Pierced!" over the mob, however, the attack still only did half damage, as if nothing ever happened. The monster had only that one tower shield, no other shields.

I think there is something wrong with Pierce, or it is something that I am not understanding.

Well, this actually depends. How much Armor Piercing was on the spell? 3% from the wand? 1% from gear? or 20% from infallible? Some can barely make any noticable difference, while others can make quite a bit of difference, of course, if you add them all together, they can make a lot of difference.

Pierced is going only have an affect on monsters that have some resist to your attack. If a monster already has zero resist to your attack, pierced will have no affect.

I do understand now. I misunderstood Pierce completely. I thought pierce would completely negate any shield, but it simply negates part of the mob's/opponent's resistance.

There will be a boost then, I saw it.

was it more than a 50% tower shield? how much was the pierce? was the pierce 1% then the shield would only block 49%. if it was infallible on a say 90% tower then it would be about 70%,75% shield.

Right, I understand how it works now. I appreciate everyone that left me with their replies.

Thank you.
