Actually, sword wands start at level 40, but those ones are drops.

knives(athames) and rings are spell casting equipment. Athames are used in magical rituals, not for fighting. I can understand that you want to attack with them, but they have sword wands for that.

Don't confuse "sword" with "Athame". They're different.

A "sword" is just another version of the "wand", which (beyond the small-level multi-spell card wands up to level 5) generally will give cards that deal X amount of damage in a certain school. Some wands/swords also give a pip or power pip at the start of battle. You can see the wand/sword in a wizard's hand

An "athame" (essentially a ceremonial dagger) is basically a worn trinket that gives health, mana, and/or other boosts.

You can buy most swords/wands at the Bazaar. There are also some for sale in the Crowns Shop.

Umm... Do you mean athames because you can use swords in battle and you can't use them for health.

It is possible to level up your wizard with only the free game, since you do gain experience every time you battle. This is just a long and tedious process. You gain 3 experience points for every pip spell you cast (3 for every zero pip spell you cast as well). Level caps on gear are mostly to help balance out the PvP arena matches. Ranked mathcups are determined my a random system that accounts for Rank and level. It wouldn't be fair for a low level wizard to be able to use a high level wand that would hit for a quarter of that wizards health with zero pip cost.
