We just bought crowns and a subscription for my son and yet he can not get into gates like Cyclops lane. What is the deal??

Players must still earn their entry to areas by completing quests they are given. Once your son has completed his tasks in Unicorn Way, his Wizard will be strong enough to handle areas such as Cyclops Lane and Firecat Alley.

If you want the prize, you have to build the ladder rung by rung. There are no shortcuts.

To get onto Cyclops Lane, a wizard has to get permission from Sergeant Muldoon in Olde Town. Muldoon will give ythe wizard a quest/task to do: defeat Lady Blackhope on Unicorn Way. Once that is done, Muldoon will open the gates of Cyclops Lane, Triton Avenue, and Firecat Alley. He will also have three more quests: one for each of the three streets. Each activates the storyline quests for its street.

Colossus Boulevard and Krokotopia (the next world) will remain closed until the wizard finishes the storyline quests of the rest of Wizard City.

No it's not. Zeke didn't say what NPC to visit in order to gain access to the three streets.

He didn't have to. It's obvious since once you beaten Unicorn Way, the next quest is to talk to Ambrose, and he'll send you to Sergeant Muldoon.

Really, some things don't need to be explained in great detail if you pay attention to what's being told to you in the game.
