You have to go through the first part of the great spyre, to the path of scales, up the elevator, and activate the crystals (past the gurtoks) which opens malistaires lair. Just know that you may have to defeat a couple of monsters in order to get there. Though it may be better if someone guides you through it since, well, its detailed.

you must complete the dragon staff and ride a dragon to the lair, when you enter the lair you will need at least one other player to help activate to crystals in order to reach the top tower to beat Malistaire.

You need to get a personalized invitation from Malistaire himself.

Receiving mail while living in the dorm is almost impossible, so the first thing you need to make sure of is that you have a house. Then place the mailbox (that you received as a reward in marleybone) near your private spiral door.

Next, you need to get your name out there. Othewise Malistaire will never know that you are interested in paying him a visit. Attend every school party you can and increase your store of "Knock, knock" jokes. If someone asks if you want to see their home, immediately drop whatever you are doing (afterall, you can do Secure House any time) and port to their home, always being gracious and polite. Accept every single Friend invitation until your friends list is full, then start working on filling your Ignore list ... this will show everyone that you are so popular that you even had to put restraining orders on people just to keep them from stalking you.

... or you could simply continue doing the main quests.
