i have place a few items in my house that i cannot select now

i placed them and intended to adjust their position, or changed my mind about where i wanted them. but moving the pointer over them does not highlight them anymore.

i have been trying periodically for quite some time to move them

and yes i am in the place items menu in my house.

the items are:
scroll
the small pet sized door
